Intrauterine Insemination

THE RIGHT PLACE. THE RIGHT TIME. Before deciding upon artificial insemination to build your family, GaySurrogacy would  like you to consider the following factors:

Medical issues such as tubal blockage or hormonal imbalances, which might have a negative impact on your ability to conceive; and may not be identified prior to the insemination taking place.

Your advanced maternal age can also play an important role on your ability to conceive in the comfort of your own home. This is especially important for women who are attempting pregnancy and are over thirty-five years of age.

Working with a reproductive specialist and save significant amounts of time and costs on your family building journey.

The Medical Process — IUI For Lesbian Family Building

What is IUI for lesbian family building? Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is also known as artificial insemination. IUI can be achieved by you in the comfort of your home or with the help of an experienced fertility specialist.

If you choose to take fertility medication with IUI, your doctor will monitor you closely during your cycle and track your ovulation.

A spectrum is inserted into the vagina and thin flexible catheter is positioned into the cervix. This type of insemination involves injecting washed sperm directly into the uterus.

Before IUI is achieved, sperm have to be removed from the seminal fluid and concentrated down. This process of sperm preparation is called washing. Sperm washing removes prostaglandins and other chemicals and also activates the sperm, which escalates its ability to fertilize the egg.

Washing the sperm also prepares the sample for injection and helps to minimize cramping that may occur after an IUI procedure. The washing also distillates the sperm into a high volume, which will increase your chances of pregnancy.

The procedure is not painful and takes nearly 30 minutes to complete. Medication and testing may also be prescribed as part of the insemination process in order to correctly time ovulation and better your pregnancy success.

At-Home Insemination: If you have regular cycles and are doing home insemination, you may be able to detect ovulation by using an ovulation predictor kit or tracking your basal body temperature (BBT). Artificial insemination success rates range from 8 to 15 percent each month, so do not get discouraged if it takes you a few months or more before becoming pregnant.

Fertility Medications For IUI

You have several options to choose from when taking fertility drugs with IUI.

  • Gonadotropins may be injected to stimulate ovulation for IUI to help the eggs mature so they will be released at the right time.
  • Ovulation stimulating drugs boost the success rates of IUI.

Alternative Options — ICI For Lesbians

Intra-cervical insemination (ICI) involves placing semen directly in the outer part of the cervix as would happen with natural intercourse.

With the use of cryopreserved semen, there are lower pregnancy rates with donor insemination.
